The Watchmen

The watchmen was an amazing movie. It was just a good story. It had a great beginning, middle, and ending. It felt so classic, but yet it was very modern. But i dont know if it is my favorite comic book film ever made. Its hard to beat comic book movies that have recnetly come out like the Dark Knight, or iron men. The X-men movies were pretty cool, but the watchmen stuck true to the original story for the most part, and the story was so in-depth itself. Directed by Zack Snyder (who directed 300, and currently is said to be directing the new heavy metal movie), the watchmen had a very graphic yet detailed story line. It was not your typical superhero movie. It takes place in like an alternative universe were masked heroes are part of everyday society, but beneath the mask, or “under the hood” as they say, superheroes weren’t all that great. Some of them wanted money, fame fortune, to rule the world, and others saw life as a big joke and laughed as he killed people. The plot thickens as it goes into the past of all the heroes, and how their lives are intertwined, and while all of this is going on, nuclear war is being declared by the USSR and the Middle East. Armageddon is about to come. Will it come? Will a masked hero save it from coming? Or will a mask hero not do anything? It’s a good question, and yet frankly a hard one to answer.
I was very entertained through out the whole movie. I had finished reading the graphic novel before I had seen the movie, and I was blown away on how true to the graphic novel this movie was. They even got the characters to like the drawings from the comic book. I can see how people were excited for this movie to come out, and I can see how this is a cult classic graphic novel. Some people might be disappointed in this movie if they know nothing of the graphic novel and expected a shoot em up bloody super hero movie, for this movie is more than your typical superman movie. There is depth to every character. My only compliant of this movie is the fact that you see Dr. Manhattan’s dong is a couple of scenes, and it’s just weird. That has to be why it’s rated R. Besides the dong shots, I loved the movie so much. It is defiantly a movie I plan to own on DVD, most likely Blu Ray.
I give it a 3.5 out 5 though. Even though i loved the movie so much, it will still missing somethings i thought were important and cool from the graphic novel. I think they did a great job casting the characters, but i think they should have gone more into depth with Rorschach story and gone more into his meetings with the prison doctor, but they did do a great job casting Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach. The movie does have some slow parts, and even some parts i just wanted to fast forward. As much as i loved it, there were things that kept me from giving it a perfect score.
