King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters

King Of Kong: A fistful of Quarters

This is a great documentary that I love to watch and own. I watched

it last night with a bunch of friends who haven’t seen it before, and it was funny seeing their reactions to the people in the documentary. The story is about two adult men battling each other for the world record title of highest score on Donkey Kong arcade game.

This documentary is about competitive classic arcade gaming. It’s all real too, nothing fake about it. Its grown men who were obsessed with arcade games from the 80’s, and are addicted to playing arcade games in their adult life, if you can call it that. You laugh at how weird and awkward these guys are, and so

metimes you feel sad for them because they are so strange, but then it makes

 you laugh again.

The main focuses is on two gamers, Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe (wee-bee). Billy Mitchell has held the world record for highest score on Donkey Kong since 1983, and will let everyone know it till the day he dies probably. He even has an army of nerds that worship the ground he walks on. Billy actually thinks he is a god. Steve is an OCD, competitive, just laid off Father and Husband who wants to do something useful with his time with no job. He wanted the satisfaction of being the best at something, and he chose Donkey Kong. Little did he know that Donkey Kong and competitive classic arcade gaming had its own culture and world, and Billy Mitchell is the king. He did not know what he was going up against when trying to beat Billy’s world record, and the things that Billy and his cult would do to Wiebe are just ridiculous.

There is so much I want to tell you about this movie, but I don’t want to give away its amazingness, you just have to trust me. There are so many great one-liners from Billy Mitchell and his followers, and they are real, not scripted. Ex, Billy says that competitive gaming has helped him run his business, and raise his family, its not all fun and games. I forgot to mention that Billy is in everyway appearance wise still stuck in the 80’s.

There are many good parts about this movie, and it is a must see. It is PG, and very clean and funny. Its great to watch with anybody. It shows you another universe you never knew existed, and how insane and sad competitive gaming really is. You will be disgusted in how immature Billy Mitchell is, and how threatened he feels by somebody just randomly deciding to be good at video games, and how the gaming world treats this new comer. See this movie now, and laugh your head off.
